Published
On 23 June 2024, Kodifly announced a $750K investment from Laidlaw Scholars Ventures. It was the company’s first funding round from external investors. Kodifly is a member of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks (HKSTP) Incubation Programme.
What the funding is for
The announcement says the money supports the productisation of Kodifly’s solutions. They use machine learning to create digital replicas of environments from LiDAR and real-time video analytics in urban settings.
Kodifly was founded in 2021 by Henry Wong and Saad Shahid Anwel, both former Laidlaw Scholars at the University of Hong Kong. The company combines cameras and LiDAR with its own AI models. The announcement lists traffic management, pedestrian safety, driver aids and environmental monitoring among its products. They accept any mix of fixed and mobile input data, and real-time or periodic analysis, and deliver insights for rail operators, transport managers and city planners.
From railways to airports and highways
At the time, Kodifly’s core expertise was in the railway sector. The announcement said the company would use the funding to extend into airport and highway management, and that it already had contracts in both sectors in Hong Kong. Its pipeline included transport infrastructure operators in Southeast Asia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
